At Lido di Venezia there’s the beach of the future
The debate on beach innovation is wide open, all the more so in this strange summer characterized, in the crucial months, by a not entirely satisfactory trend (although the story of deserted beaches, as we already highlighted in this editorial, is an exaggeration or more likely a lie). That beach establishments need to invest to be more attractive is instead a certainty. And at Lido di Venezia there’s a company, Venezia Spiagge, that has shifted into gear in this regard. Credit where credit is due, especially considering that the company is public and entirely controlled by the Municipality of Venice.
Venezia spiagge operates on three facilities: Blue Moon, about which we’ve already told you about the ongoing changes, Lungomare and San Nicolò. And right at Blue Moon, cutting-edge technology has been introduced, which somehow recalls the automated ordering system you can find in restaurants and fast food chains. It’s about purchasing through beach totems. The system, developed together with Emme Retail, allows customers to purchase their spot directly on the beach with just a few simple clicks, deciding autonomously under which umbrella to spend the day.
Another significant innovation is the introduction of the “stamping roller“, which allows printing the beach logo on the sand. Developed with two specialized suppliers (Scam and F.A), this system treats the sand near the walkways to improve the aesthetic and visual impact of the beach area and make the beach much more refined and orderly.
There’s also the flexible rate, another novelty of the year, which allows you to move your reservation for a 2-euro surcharge by midnight before the booked date. This way you can comfortably book well in advance the spot that appeals to you most and then move it for any reason.
Finally, the reception desks have been strengthened by adding beach product sales service: towels, bags, pouches, creams; everything needed for a 360-degree experience. The e-commerce system has been developed by customizing the purchase experience for daily/periodic/seasonal services, an aspect that contributed to the success of the 2025 subscription campaign (with 80% of contracts completed online).
Pierluigi Padovan, president of Venezia Spiagge and vice president of Sib and Unionmare Veneto, declared: “In these last 4 years Venezia Spiagge has invested heavily in innovation for the continuous improvement of managing our splendid beach area, developing with our suppliers technological innovations unique in Italy (the hand bike, the totem and the stamping roller just to give a few examples) and of the customer experience right from the booking phase. Our reception desks are important reference points where customers find a courteous answer to their every need thanks to the new product line. For customers who wish to plan their stay in advance we have the flexible rate, while with the innovative totem, the first on national territory, even those who find themselves on the beach at the last minute will be able to find their umbrella helped and served by our Beach Stuart. In short, we have designed the best customer experience for every type of client!”
