The Terrazza a Mare of Lignano is Being Reborn

Terrazza a Mare Lignano Sabbiadoro

An 18 million euro project will restore the Terrazza a Mare of Lignano Sanddoro to its former glory. The work is already underway and represents, in the intentions of the Friuli Venezia Giulia Region that financed it, a model of innovation, sustainability and revival for the entire regional territory, in its most important seaside resort in terms of visitors.

Terrazza a Mare was born in the early 1900s based on a project by Venetian architect Giovanni Antonio Vendrasco. It was then rebuilt after World War I and the third version dates back to 1962 based on a project by architects Marcello D’Olivo and Aldo Bernardis. Inaugurated in 1972, it became the icon of Lignano Sanddoro. In May 2024, work began on safety measures, seismic energy and functional redevelopment of the structure and everything, according to forecasts, should be completed by the beginning of next summer.

The ongoing interventions, according to local press reports, aim not only at architectural modernization, but also at creating new spaces and services capable of enhancing the structure year-round. It will therefore become a multifunctional hub and a center for events, conferences and wellness activities. The new area will include a panoramic podium connected to the beach, destined to be a beach club during the day and restaurant in the evening, as well as an infinity pool made of transparent glass at the end of the pier.
