In Gallipoli they are demolishing the “old” Samsara

The beach club that made the history of Salento nightlife is being demolished. Closed for years, the Samsara Beach Club had become a sort of “monster” dumped on the beach, with all that entails for structures in a state of abandonment. Meanwhile, Samsara’s activity has moved to Romagna, where the beach club founded by David Cicchella continues to welcome groups of young people for parties and dancing on the beach (and has been included for two years in our “Guide to the best beach clubs in Italy”).

The dismantling operations began in early April, after the green light from the State Property Agency. As the online newspaper LeccePrima writes, the Municipality of Gallipoli has entrusted the company with the task of dismantling the ruins and by summer the beach will be free from the ruins and hazards present today. The same newspaper recalls that: “Samsara had become a precarious and illegal structure, positioned on the state maritime area and became a symbol of decay and abandonment and a receptacle for waste, as well as an element of danger to public safety. The area had recently been fenced off for safety reasons”.

The affair had ended up in courtrooms at the time with a trial on alleged building violations, concluded last year with the acquittal of the four defendants (the owner and three technicians) in the Court of Appeal because the fact did not exist. Following the acquittal, the seizure of the structure (seized on February 7, 2019) was lifted, and it was returned to the state property.
