Many festive evenings accompanied the 2025 season of Sticco Mare, which returned to full operation after the terrible storm surge of October 2023 that caused damage and forced management to restore everything with significant investments. For Trieste locals, Sticco is a reference point, a kind of club where the city’s crème gathers. The location is particularly delightful: from the steps and platforms that allow you to descend to the sea, at a rocky coastal point, you can admire Miramare Castle. The history of Sticco Mare begins in 1955 thanks to the intuition of founder Antonio Sticco, who spoke of it as “a noble, aristocratic area, imperial waters admired by Sissi, Maximilian and Charlotte. With the proximity of the Castle in that atmosphere of waltzes and crinolines, the bathing establishment takes on a certain aristocratic nuance.” Since 2019, management has been handled by a group of four partners. After parking your car in the reserved parking lot and passing the characteristic vintage sign, you descend to Sticco via steps that lead to the restaurant area and from there to the stations set up along the cliff. The sea, on the clearest days, presents breathtaking hues, and we’re just a few kilometers from the port of Trieste! The seabed is rocky, so it’s better (but not essential) to use reef shoes. The menu features raw fish dishes, healthy cuisine proposals, sandwiches and large salads. Among the highlight evenings are the now-historic Wednesday aperitif, Saturday night dance, and Friday evening’s Alta Marea.
Update. At the end of October last year, a violent storm surge substantially destroyed the establishment. It’s likely that planned investments will have to be postponed for the reconstruction of damaged parts.
