La Spiaggetta dei Balzi Rossi

Records are often debatable, but La Spiaggetta dei Balzi Rossi can boast one that’s hard to challenge: being the beach establishment closest to the state border. If you wish, you can park directly at the French frontier, then continue on foot along the road leading to the small beach, beneath the Balzi Rossi caves and just past the prehistoric museum that bears their name. La Spiaggetta overlooks a sea of incredible emerald green hues; the seabed is pebbly, making the colors stand out even more. This enchanting scene is completed by views stretching from the small promontory on the Italian side to Menton bay on the French side; the panorama helps us understand why this place has captured the hearts of artists and intellectuals, who have become regular clients of the “Egg Beach” as it’s commonly called. The “boutique” dimensions allow for just a few stations, equipped with white sun loungers and umbrellas, for privileged guests who can enjoy the sea’s spectacle and a rather interesting events program including DJ sets, barbecue dinners (new for 2023), evenings dedicated to beach cinema (“Nuovo Cinema Balzi Rossi”) and moonlight concerts. In the kitchen: selection of oysters, raw fish and shellfish, excellent spaghetti with sea urchins and bluefin tuna bottarga, catch of the day and lobster catalana.
