Il Mirto Solarium Bar, Maratea
Relaxing beach club in Mediterranean setting

Those seeking tranquility, emerald sea with cobalt blue streaks, a beach without sand immersed in greenery, cannot help but fall in love with this place. Facing the small island called U’ Tuppu, Giovanni Fulco opened Il Mirto thirty years ago, and today his beach club, run together with his son Simone and daughter-in-law Antonella, fears no directives or tenders for concessions because the land is privately owned and the only contact point with the sea are the steps built to allow bathers to return under the deep green umbrellas (like the sea) placed along pebble pathways among olive trees, cacti, hedges and plants scattered everywhere. After all, Il Mirto’s clients love staying in the shade of vegetation more than under umbrellas, which by regulation can accommodate a maximum of two people (with tolerance for one child at most) to avoid overly noisy situations. Music is banned during the day and clients appreciate this choice, because the sound to listen to is that of the sea crashing against the cliffs. The facility, which began with about ten umbrellas and twenty loungers, has grown over time and today also offers basic dining service (mostly “frese” with various toppings) and a cocktail bar particularly popular at aperitif time, with great classics on the drink list and the signature “Mirto spritz”. Being connected to the water supply, the facility allows its guests to use showers with complimentary organic shampoo.
