Eco del Mare

The story tells that Francois Mozer discovered this enchanting bay by lowering himself down the cliff with the help of a rope and, once he reached the ground, decided to build his home there. Admiring the bay today, it’s really hard to blame him. Then he planted an umbrella, with a couple of loungers for himself and his friends, and from there, year after year, the current beach club was born with small numbers (thirty widely spaced positions) which, instead of with a rope, is accessed through a purpose-built staircase and with the help of an elevator for a more comfortable ascent. Beyond its beauty, what strikes you about Eco del Mare is the sense of well-being that pervades those who descend into the bay of Fiascherino which seems designed to enchant, with views over the La Spezia archipelago and with a small beach with mixed seabed that interrupts the continuity of the cliff. It’s known to most as Zucchero’s establishment, but things aren’t exactly like that: Eco del Mare is the result of years of investment by the Mozer family and since 2010 it has been personally managed by Francesca, Francois’ daughter, married to the famous bluesman whose traces can be found in the structure, because the names of the six rooms created from the transformation of the old cabins take inspiration from as many Zucchero songs. Francesca has furnished the beach club keeping what was already there, combining design pieces discovered in her travels and what over the years has been donated by the sea that takes, carries and sometimes leaves. You can’t help but fall in love with the bar, set up under the rock, and the signature cocktails contribute to this infatuation, such as the Ligurians like Negroni prepared with Camatti bitter, to be enjoyed on the sofas or even better on the swing. The wine list is a summary of the territorial offer with ample space given to labels from the Cinque Terre and Colli di Luni. The restaurant at lunch is reserved for beach guests and in the evening, starting from aperitif time, it also opens to outsiders. Those who imagine a romantic escape from daily life will find their ideal refuge here.
