Baia del Rogiolo, Livorno

Beautiful and surprising, operating since 1961 on a small natural pebble beach. In Livorno, you’ll find this unexpected place in the locality of Quercianella. To get there, you need to park along the road and take the descent leading to the railway underpass, despite many doubts as the signage questions the actual possibility of transit. Continue with determination and you’ll find yourself in front of Rogiolo, in a small bay of supreme beauty: on the left there’s the small castle of Villa Jana, on the right stands the castle that once belonged to Sidney Sonnino, and below there’s the sea, accessible via a small stairway. We are thus in the bay of two castles, though not of too ancient construction; add to this the presence of a private marina with a neo-medieval tower and the picture is complete. The beach club is in perfect harmony with such beauty. It begins, descending from the road, with the restaurant divided between the main hall and five tables in the privée area, to be booked well in advance on a long, narrow terrace: the view is sublime and dining at sunset, in this position and with this panorama, is an undoubtedly romantic experience. Below the restaurant we find the positions with sugar paper-colored umbrellas, placed on a platform, and then other umbrellas and sunbeds directly on the beach. Baia del Rogiolo has had different managements in its history and the current one, which took over in 2022, invests in qualifying the structure and giving an increasingly qualitative orientation to the restaurant, which offers the great seafood classics.
