Lido Aurora

Aurora, managed by the Caracciolo family, is a beach club that has focused on quality, including in terms of staff availability – during peak season, fifty people work here, ensuring excellent service for the 400 guests that the facility can accommodate. Built starting in 1970 on the beach of Corigliano Calabro, it was initially created as a restaurant by founder Antonio Caracciolo and his wife Annunziata Falco, then became a beach club towards the end of the nineties. Today it’s managed by their children Umberto, Salvatore, Gianni and Anna, all involved in running both the restaurant and beach club. The top dishes in the kitchen are the tagliolino with red prawns and Pollino truffle, and lobster caught in the waters off Amendolara. There are also pizzas and a wine list featuring about a hundred Calabrian labels plus an equal number representing Italy’s finest denominations; wine is the focus, so the cocktail menu covers just the essentials. The beach has coarse sand and a pebbly seabed, which doesn’t create particular difficulties for sea access. Great attention is paid to the environment, from renewable energy with solar panels to a well water purification system using osmosis, since the water network doesn’t reach the beach here. Improvements are noticeable season after season, with recent additions including new sun loungers with mattresses, enhanced greenery with plants and flowers, and increased spacing between beach spots.
