There’s an important new entry in Basilicata. It’s Libbani Beach Club, a facility that opened last year and has already earned three umbrellas in the 2026 edition, in bookstores from April 24th, of Guide to the Best Beach Clubs in Italy (here’s the link for those who want to purchase it online).

We found this year’s novelty in Lucania on the Tyrrhenian coast, in Acquafredda, a hamlet north of Maratea. Libbani is a top-tier beach club that will add further prestige to this location also known as the “pearl of the Tyrrhenian Sea.” On Porticello beach, in a small cove with dark pebbles and crystal-clear waters, Libbani takes its name from the ancient plant-based ropes that fishermen used to moor their boats.

The beach setups are the best on the market, with teak bases, super-comfort mattresses and macramé umbrellas, personalized towels, plus the added benefit of supervised parking. Bookable online, Libbani offers services that meet expectations, such as the possibility of lunching or simply enjoying a drink under the umbrella, though we recommend trying the lunch experience on the terrace.

Among the dishes on the menu: trio of tartare, charcuterie board, various choices between pokè and acquasale, octopus tentacle with eggplant cream and semi-dried tomatoes, eggplant parmigiana, chef’s pinse and club sandwich. For desserts, they venture outside the region, featuring a Pizzo Calabro truffle and an Amalfi sfusato. A good cocktail menu, with several non-alcoholic options, tempts you toward aperitivo with a strong lean toward the Libbani spritz. The wine list is well-structured and balanced between sparkling wines, whites, reds and rosés, with labels from Lucania, Italy, France and even some names from the rest of Europe. Many events are organized during the summer, from “music on the water” concerts to DJ sets, up to wine dinners in collaboration with wine companies.
