Poseidonia Beach Club, Marina di Ascea

“Captain” Gianni Rizzo consistently pursues his sustainable beach club project on the wide, sandy beach of Marina di Ascea. And he does so successfully, backed by the title of best sustainable beach club in Italy won last year. But that’s not all: also in 2025 came a new certification, ISO 20121 for sustainable event management, making it the first Italian beach club to boast this achievement. Meanwhile, this summer, Poseidonia will reach adulthood, having been founded in 2008 where there was once a free beach, and its growth has been accompanied by green investments: from intensive waste sorting to the construction of a photovoltaic system that allows the facility to achieve energy self-sufficiency, to rainwater collection used to water the garden plants. Various educational areas and a Mediterranean diet vegetable garden have been set up inside. Children, who are given the task of watering the garden, receive in return a certificate of ownership for one centimeter of surface area. And children are also the stars with educational cooking workshops on Tuesday afternoons and cartoon on the beach evenings. In the kitchen we find very fresh fish with citrus-marinated anchovies, mussel soup with ‘a maruzzara fresella, the chef’s pacchero allo scarpariello, catch of the day and the so-called “melting pizza” resulting from 48 hours of leavening. Finally, since 2010, sushi has been made on the beach here in a fusion style, combining the elegance of oriental cuisine with the flavors of the Cilento land, a true tribute to Slow Food presidium products.
