“Mare d’amare” (Sea to Love) is the trademarked claim that characterizes Papardò, an excellently managed beach establishment featuring a sea of rare beauty. We’re on Arenauta beach, one of Gaeta’s seven beaches, nestled among holm oaks, carob trees and olive trees. Papardò is a true seaside park spanning over two hectares along the Riviera di Ulisse. It’s reached from the road via a steep descent, at the bottom of which is the parking area included in the price – a significant plus, especially since there are no parking spaces along the road and Gaeta’s municipal police are merciless when it comes to tickets. Looking at it, you understand why it’s extremely popular for private events, weddings and film set requests: many exterior scenes for movies and TV series have been shot here, including L’amica geniale. It has been operating for over forty years and has always been managed by the Ciufo family. At the restaurant, open only for lunch, they serve gricia di mare, with mussels replacing the guanciale, and it’s the most requested dish; also worth trying is the typical tiella di Gaeta prepared by the historic Arciuli bakery. Beach chairs and umbrellas are well-spaced, the furnishings are simple with wooden structures, bamboo cane coverings and a rather basic restaurant area with plastic chairs and green and white checkered tablecloths. The context in which it’s located encourages the managers to pay particular attention to the environment and waste management. Here there’s lots of peace and tranquility, and it’s ideal for families and couples.
