La Capannina di Portonovo

La Capannina is the reference point on the Portonovo scene, the pearl of the Conero Riviera, and is able to satisfy the expectations of those who want to combine a beautiful day at the sea with the gastronomic experience of dishes by chef Lorenzo Montesi or with a good pizza (48-hour leavening) to be enjoyed with a sea view. The establishment managed by the Sonnino family is immersed in a context of rare beauty, with high standards in all aspects. There’s internal parking, a rare commodity in Portonovo bay, and there’s a stretch of beach that, if the sea doesn’t take it all away, has remarkable transparency made possible by the particularity of the seabed which is coarse sand and pebbles. Between one spot and another, with marine furnishings in light tones, there isn’t much space but here we are on the Conero and the width of the coastline is what it is. On the menu, last summer, we found a couple of tasting menus and then, among the individual dishes, cuttlefish tagliatelle “like a caprese”, lots of raw preparations, the chef’s watercolor (risotto), fish skewers and gratin tomatoes and many other creations, finishing with tiramisu 2.0. And don’t forget to try, since they are typical of the Conero and a Slow Food presidium, the wild moscioli (local mussels). Wine list justly representative of the Marche region, and there’s also a beer menu. Book well in advance for weekends and during August, so you can access freely avoiding parking upstream and having to take the shuttle bus.
