Il Fortino, Sperlonga

Il Fortino was, for many years, a reference point for nightlife on the Lazio coast, when in the evening it would host more than 2,500 people on the dance floor, and certainly those moments were important in securing the present based instead on the beach, on relaxation, on good cuisine. Also because the beauty of the sea and the place cannot be perceived at night, while during the day they are definitely noticeable! A beauty, that of Il Fortino, which was discovered in the fifties by Vincenzo Trani, a fish merchant, who carefully followed the construction work of the via Flacca and when the workers completed the tunnel that descended towards Gaeta, just beyond the last rock wall, they found themselves facing a small kiosk that sold freshly caught fish dishes. Trani had opened it for the occasion, sensing the future business, and that was the embryo of the establishment that is active and operating today. After Vincenzo, who with his wife Norina began the history of the establishment, and after the management of his son Leone, today Il Fortino is an all-female beach club, with Vincenzo’s daughters and granddaughters managing the structure divided between beach spots and solarium areas, with sun loungers positioned on the green grass carpet. The founder always said that Il Fortino was “a place to meet, a place to stop, a place to live happy hours”. And that’s how we found it. At the restaurant, among the most interesting dishes are: octopus basket, grouper meatballs, paccheri with swordfish, calamarata with grouper and olives, fried anchovies, grilled squid and prawns.
